FA CUP REPLAYS

We look ahead to Sutton’s tussle with AFC Wimbledon while Lincoln prepare for the visit of Ipswich

ALEX WOODYARD says pushing Ipswich Town to a FA Cup third round replay is down to the Lincoln City fans – as well as a King size bed! Roared on by nearly 5,000 travelling supporters, the National League leaders were just four minutes away from dumping out the Championship Tractor Boys . Striker Theo Robinson twice put Danny Cowley’s side ahead only for Tom Lawrence to come to the rescue with a double of his own. BBC are sending the cameras to Sincil Bank for Tuesday night’s rematch, which will bring in an extra £72,000, with the winners hosting Brighton & Hove Albion in the fourth round. And midfielder Woodyard says the Suffolk ‘Impvasion’ – which was the largest away following at Portman Road since it became an all-seater stadium – inspired the team. “You don’t realise how good it is for the top players to be playing in atmospheres like that every week,” the England C captain told The NLP. “Forget the money, you want to be in front of crowds like that every week. “I’d like to re-live it again and take it all in a bit more. You get caught up in the game, but warming up and at the end of the game was unbelievable. “Just before kick-off I looked at one of the lads and said, ‘Wow’. I’ve never played in front of something like that before. It does help, it gives you that little bit extra. “Before the game the gaffer said about how well we’ve been doing this season, and the best thing we could do was play our own game. We could have been false to how we are, but it was about finding that extra 10%. “The manager’s very good with his team-talks, you feel like you’re going out to battle. But on days like Saturday he could have said nothing and the boys would have still been up for it purely from the fans.” Woodyard shared a room with goal-hero Robinson the night before the game. The former Derby County man also scored a double as they beat Oldham Athletic in round two. “Theo’s our FA Cup goalscorer,” Woodyard, 24, said. “His second goal was a great finish. “We prepared like we do for every game – the only good thing was in the hotel we stayed in I had a nice big King size bed all to myself – normally we’re in single beds! I had about eight pillows. I struggled to get out for breakfast it was so nice!”
