Grayson grabs draw for Bucks

CORBY TOWN 1 BUXTON 1

- By Gerry Lucas

CORBY’S search for a victory this season goes on but they were somewhat unlucky in this game conceding the equaliser with just seven minutes to go.

Corby created the game’s first chance with only five minutes gone when good work by Femi Orenuga saw him pick out Jordon Crawford, whose fierce low shot was well-saved by Jan Budtz in the Buxton goal.

Buxton’s first effort was by Niall Doran from 20 yards out but his shot flew way over Aidan Grant’s crossbar.

Another chance came when Evan Garnett seized on a loose ball and ran on but his effort was fired well wide of the target.

However it was the home side who took the lead when Ben Milnes’ through ball expertly found Crawford who turned sharply and hit a fizzing low shot past the stranded Budtz and into the back of the net.

The visitors almost equalised early in the second half but Grant’s superb double save denied firstly Garnett and then Brad Abbott in quick succession.

Just past the hour mark substitute Nicky Walker’s free-kick was well-saved by Grant.

In reply Corby created several good half chances but the ball would simply not drop for them at the vital moment.

A terrific effort by Reece Webb saw his cross-shot beat Budtz but land on top of the net. And Corby’s missed chances would prove costly as with only seven minutes left, and somewhat against the run of play, Buxton equalised.

Brad Grayson ran on to a long through ball and as Grant advanced he slipped the ball under the goalkeeper’s body and into the back of the net.

In the final minutes both teams had chances for a winner but it was not to be and they settled for a point.
