Councillor’s concern over street food venue plans

-

A NORTH Tyneside councillor has raised fears that plans for a street food venue could lead to “public nuisance”.

Canny Leisure Group North East has asked North Tyneside Council for permission to sell alcohol from a premises in Whitley Bay.

If the plans are given the goahead, the business will be selling “independent craft beers, wines, spirits and cocktails,” from 11am to 11pm Sunday to Wednesday and Thursday and Friday and Saturday 11am to midnight.

As well as selling drinks, the Park View premises will also be used as “unique setting for street food”.

But ward councillor John O’Shea has raised concerns that it could cause problems in the area.

He raised fears about smokers congregating outside the venue on a “very narrow pavement”.

Coun O’Shea was also concerned about noise and the impact on traffic.

He wrote: “It’s unclear from the application how deliveries would be made to the premises without causing severe traffic disruption either on Park View or at the rear of the property

“The application does not address the issue of noise breakout from the premises. Particular concerns about noise to residents with party wall with the premises.

“Pick-ups from the premises would cause issues around traffic movements in Park View”.

If the application is given the go-ahead, Canny Leisure say they will offer a place for people to socialise and for small producers to sell their wares.

It added that they were seeking permission for “a licensed bar area serving independent craft beers, wines, spirits and cocktails. This space will turn into a social meeting place, a platform for other like-minded independent operators to showcase some of their amazing products.

“It will offer a safe space to enjoy live music, arts and dance as well as a private hire venue.”
