- SPORTS STAFF

England women have risen to a best-ever second in the world in the latest Fifa rankings.

Phil Neville's side are rewarded for their positive performance in the SheBelieves Cup earlier this month and now sit only behind the winners of that tournament, USA, in the standings.

Olympic champions Germany have slipped down to third as a result.

Elsewhere, Scotland have moved up a place to 22nd, Wales are now 34th and Northern Ireland are now 56th.

France rose to fifth while Netherlands remain at No.7. Sweden rose to ninth after being named joint winners of the Algarve Cup. Canada, who finished fifth at the event, climbed to fourth in the rankings.

Japan, who won the World Cup in 2011 and finished runners-up in 2015, have dropped out of the top 10 for the first time since 2007 after losing two of their four matches this year.

Cyprus Cup champions Spain rose to 12th, their best yet.
