Police name teenager found shot dead
POLICE have confirmed the identity of a shooting victim whose body was found after reports of a burglary.
Marcus Smith, 19, of Chapel-en-le-frith, was pronounced dead after Derbyshire Police were called to a property in Eccles Road, Whaley Bridge, in the early hours of Wednesday.
In a statement confirming that the body found at the scene has been formally identified as Mr Smith, police said that he was not the owner of the property.
The statement added: “His family are aware and are being supported by specialist officers.
“A second man, who is in his teens, was also found with a gunshot wound nearby in the same road.
“He suffered serious injuries and has been taken to hospital where he remains.
“However, his injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.”
A man who is aged in his 50s has been arrested by police on suspicion of murder and attempted murder.
He remains in police custody.
A fourth man, who is in his 20s, was arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary after the vehicle he was travelling in was stopped on the A6 on Wednesday afternoon.
A fifth man, who is said to be in his 30s, was arrested on Thursday on suspicion of conspiracy to commit burglary.
A male in his late teens was arrested yesterday on suspicion of assisting an offender.
The statement said that Derbyshire Police officers had received reports of a burglary at the property on Eccles Road in Whaley Bridge at around 3.30pm on Tuesday.
A police spokesperson said in the statement: “Officers attended the scene and at this stage we are keeping an open mind as to whether the two incidents are linked.”
