Eco tech start-up Pawprint launches second crowdfunding campaign of 2020

- By Karen Peattie

PAWPRINT, the Edinburghbased eco tech start-up which aims to help individuals fight climate change through a “behavioural change” app, has launched its second crowdfunding of the year as the company scales up.

Hosted by Crowdcube, this latest crowdfunding follows a successful round in May when the firm’s £100,000 target was 300 per cent overfunded. Pawprint is now seeking £400,000 which will help finance development of its new “Pawprint for Business” product.

The firm, set up last year by entrepreneur and Lingo24 founder Christian Arno, also confirmed that global investment company Standard Life Aberdeen is the latest to become a “Pawprint Pioneer”, joining Aberdeenshire-based brewery and pub chain Brewdog as the first to use Pawprint for Business to engage with their employees on sustainability.

Pawprint brings technology, behavioural science and carbon data together in one easy-to-use platform. So far, the business has raised more than £1 million from angel investors including early backers Tesla, Amazon and Spotify.

Mr Arno noted that Pawprint has seen demand for its online tool ramp up during 2020 as the coronavirus pandemic shines a spotlight on the need for urgent climate action.

He added: “Our first two Pawprint for Business users – Standard Life Aberdeen and Brewdog – are very different businesses but one thing they have in common is that they are both committed to taking the lead on tackling climate change and recognise the value in engaging their employees on sustainability.”

Standard Life Aberdeen’s global head of sustainability, Sandy Macdonald, said the app would enable employees to tackle their own carbon footprint as well as allow the company to “better understand the impact on emissions of our employees working from home”.

The free Pawprint consumer product, launched earlier this year, has attracted 2,500 registrations and has 4,000 unique monthly visitors.
