We cannot trust Westminster

IT seems to me as a humble retired NHS worker that the issue of independence rests upon the trust people place in the current political leadership in Westminster. Successive governments of all colours have taken for granted the trust people have placed in them.

How can anyone trust the promises of politicians who fail to meet manifesto commitments for tuition fees (Liberal Democrat), could not find the weapons of mass destruction which we were promised would be fired on our allies within 45 minutes, sold our gold reserves (Labour) and our Royal Mail at a loss (Coalition), imposed a level of austerity and cutbacks hitherto unseen since the 1930s and are intent on privatising the NHS through stealth (Coalition)?

Simmering underneath this is stench of the expenses scandal.

There are questions which are unanswered.

What has happened to trust when a secrecy order was placed on the 1970s McCrone report showing the true embarrassing levels of oil reserves?

How can the Scottish Labour leader make a case for more powers if this is what we received whilst better together?

How can a former Labour Prime Minister, in charge during the greatest banking crash, now make a case for more powers and expect to be believed?

When I look to the rest of the UK my heart goes out to the communities blighted by the failure of politicians.

Yet I, and my fellow ordinary people, know this time a vote does matter and will make a real difference.

No matter what the outcome in two weeks, we can all be proud Alex Salmond, Nicola Sturgeon and their team reinvigorated politics like no other before them. Mrs AM Smith, 1 Argyle Place, Bonnyrigg,
