Sgurr energised by business gong

SGURR Energy has won top billing in the Glasgow Business Awards 2012, reflecting the importance of the renewable energy sector in the city.

The renewables engineerin­g consultanc­y was recognised by the event’s main sponsor, Bank of Scotland, as most outstandin­g business overall. It also won the prize for internatio­nal trade in the awards, which were organised by Glasgow Chamber of Commerce.

Stuart Patrick, chief executive of Glasgow Chamber of Commerce, said: “The success of Sgurr Energy reaffirms Glasgow as a hub for renewable energy research and developmen­t.”

Scott Grier OBE, former chairman of Loganair, won the Chamber’s exceptiona­l l i f e t i me a c hi evement award, following 36 years of service at the Glasgowbas­ed airline.

Young business person of the year was Gillian Avart of Paraplanni­ng. Drum and percussion store Rhythm Base won the Evening Times category of Glasgow’s favourite business, after receiving the most votes from the public.

Allied Internatio­nal Credit (UK) Ltd won the sustainabl­e developmen­t award. Itison was judged best performing business with over 25 employees. Sports Merchandis­e Global was best p e r f o r ming business with 25 employees or under.

Chocola te company Nucoco was judged to have made the best use of social media, and Glasgow Airport won the award for excellence in customer service.

The creative marketing award went to Glasgow Film Festival.

Blythswood Square hotel won the best performing inward investor award.

Golden Charter picked up the ecommerce award

The best employer of a student or graduate was Find Me Glasgow.

Dell scooped the excellence in skills and learning award.

The gong for equality and diversity went to City Building.
