MacIntyre is confident he is right back in the swing

-

ROBERT MacIntyre believes his game is back on track at the ideal time after a worrying slide down the world rankings.

MacIntyre began the season just outside the top 50 but goes into this week’s Genesis Scottish Open 102nd in the standings after recording just one top 10 in 13 events.

However, the 25-year-old lefthander feels a recent change of coach has paid dividends following a tie for 13th in last week’s Irish Open and is relishing back-to-back events on home soil as he bids for a second DP World Tour victory ahead of the 150th Open at St Andrews.

“I’m seeing good signs in my game,” said MacIntyre, who is now working with Simon Shanks after parting company with Davy Burns.

“It was a good performance last week.

“I’ve changed quite a few things but we’re still pushing to do the same things and trying to get better, trying to win golf tournaments.

“I was doing the same thing and I was hitting it the same as always so I had to change something and last week I felt the buzz back when I was playing golf. It’s been a while since I felt like that.”

As well as a change of coach, MacIntyre is also trying to change his attitude on the course after conceding he is guilty of being his own harshest critic at times.

He added: “I’ve been hard on myself, results haven’t gone my way and I haven’t played at a level I know I can play at.

“I think I’ve been getting on top of myself too easily - I hit one bad shot and think it’s a disaster.

“The BMW International Open at Munich was an eye-opener and I can’t let these things happen.

“For 30 holes I was near the top of the leaderboard and after 36 I was on the way home!”
