ELLIOTT’S EAGER TO FIRE THE AMMIES

- By Joe Leavey

TOM ELLIOTT believes he can be the man to carry Salford to their promised land.

The 29-year-old striker signed for the Ammies on a two-and-a-half-year deal after he was released by Millwall having made only one appearance this season.

But for a man who knows how to make his way through the divisions, the Leeds native is certain he can serve his new side well as they bid to keep up their rapid rise.

“I’m super excited to get going, I can’t wait to get playing,” he said. “I spoke to the gaffer, heard his ambitions, spoke to

Gary (Neville) and heard his as well. I felt like it is a time in my career when I want to be part of that, part of something special and basically help them go up the leagues.

“I got promoted from the Conference, from League Two to League One and got a move to the Championship, so have been around the leagues and experienced all kinds of football. I hope I can bring that experience here.”

Elliott was part of the Cambridge side that sealed Conference playoff final victory back in 2014, before repeating the trick two years later for Wimbledon in the League Two equivalent.

That led to Millwall getting in contact in 2017, where Elliott scored seven times in his 24 league outings across two seasons with the south Londoners.

And for a Salford side who had managed 32 goals in their 26 League Two outings ahead of the weekend, that is where Elliott believes his impact can be telling.

“The gaffer mentioned that there’s not been a lot of goalscoring, that he needs more goals up front and I feel like I can bring that,” he said. “I played in League Two, got promoted with Wimbledon, played in League One and I’ve always scored goals along the way.”
