Cowley sent off as Imps are held

LINCOLN boss Danny Cowley was left frustrated after his side couldn’t make their late pressure count in a pulsating East Midlands derby at Sincil Bank.

Jorge Grant’s 17th goal of the season earned a point for the Magpies after Lincoln had come from behind themselves to lead.

Cowley, who was sent to the stands ten minutes before halftime, felt a number of key decisions didn’t go his side’s way.

“Three major decisions went against us and they were gamechangers,” he explained. “There was a blatant trip on Sam Habergham in the build-up to their first goal that went unpunished.

“I didn’t say a great deal to the referee but he’s deemed it enough to send me off.

“There were a number of big moments go against us from thereon in but credit to the players; they responded to those setbacks well.”

“We’re disappointed. It took us about 30 minutes to get going.

“However, from the moment they scored the first goal, there was only ever going to be one winner, if at all.”

County were almost ahead inside the first ten seconds when a slip from Lincoln’s Alex Woodyard straight from kick-off allowed Jon Stead a clear run at goal.

Fortunately for Woodyard, however, Michael Bostwick was able to catch the forward and shield the ball back to goalkeeper Paul Farman just in time.
