BETTER SAYS U’S MANAGER JOE

-

“Gavin has been scoring on his left foot a lot in training and he took his goal exceptionally well, too.

“It was a great pass into space and a wonderful finish and we had two or three other moments where we could have killed the game off and made it a more comfortable.”

Coventry boss Steven Pressley said:“You can’t come away from home and find yourself 2-0 down after 20 minutes and expect to get something.

“Over the course of the other 70 minutes, when you take into consideration the pitch which, was appalling, I thought we played a lot of good football.

“In the end, I thought that we should have got something but we’re making life far too difficult for ourselves and we have to be far more aggressive in our defending.

“There were a lot of good things to take but the first 20 minutes, we can’t accept.”

Colchester went ahead in the fourth minute through Sears, who broke clear of the Coventry defence and fired confidently past goalkeeper Joe Murphy. The U’s doubled their lead midway through the first half when Massey finished clinically into the bottom corner after latching onto David Wright’s ball over the Coventry defence.

Walker pushed away Chuba Akpom’s fine low shot before Coventry gave them- selves a lifeline just before half-time through Callum Wilson.

Buoyed by the goal, Coventry had several chances to equalise in the second half.

Walker denied Jordan Clarke and Wilson, who also fired agonisingly wide in stoppage-time, as Colchester claimed the points.
