What: The ombre knit
Why it’s right for now: I hankered after a tie-dye jumper from another label last year but luckily they sold out before I got around to ordering. Just as well because they were very pricey. This, however, is the epitome of what M&S do best and should do more of. It’s excellent value for money, classic but interesting. Plus, being M&S, it’s sustainably and humanely produced – and machine washable. I’ve got the pink and am mightily tempted by the blue version.
How to wear it: This is a spring weight – perfect for now, although some days I still wear a silk cami or full-on thermal underneath. It’s lovely with trousers and jeans. Once it’s warm enough to go bare legged I’ll wear this with a fluid black-and-white midi skirt or over a pink silk dress. Lisa Armstrong
What: The linen trouser suit
Why it’s right for now: Made from French flax, woven in Europe and cut on a contemporary, slouchy block, this is a class act, with plenty of details that make it look like a luxury buy. Vents, top stitching, three buttons which close high enough up the torso for it to be worn on its own or over a silky camisole. I love the matching elasticated waist trousers too – the perfect synthesis of soft tailoring and comfort. This was intended to debut early last autumn, hence the reduction, which makes it even more of a good deal.
How to wear it: As shown, with flat sandals or trainers and maximum nonchalance – that jacket feels like a cardigan. Or with some strappy, delicate kitten- heeled sandals, chunky gold jewellery and a neon cami. Or a black lace one. I’d also split the suit up. The trousers would look fab with an oversized navy or black jumper while the jacket will work over tea dresses. Bargain of the season. LA
