This novelty knit will get you through the lockdown ahead
On a recent trip to Scotland (oh, how times have changed!), I was in knitwear heaven. I spent several hours perusing the shops ps in Hawick and finding brilliant iterations of pieces es which you can’t find for r love nor money online e at the moment, like ea a Fairisle slipover (I was calling these e vests until a few weeks ago, but am now adopting this more traditional term) discovered languishing on a sale rail which is the perfect version of one of this season’s biggest knitwear trends. Everywhere from Zara t to Net-a-porter was sold out, b but Hawick delivered the goods. There was a beautiful thistle patterned one in the
Pringle outlet, too, which I still regret not picking up.
I’ve tended to opt for the sleek and plain when it comes to jumpers in the past, but this year, I’m craving something jollier – lockdown gloom might have something to do with it – and my latest Scottish knitwear discovery, located a little further north in Inverugie, Aberdeenshire, is just the thing.
Using wool which hails from the Shetland Islands, Bosie has a delectable array of Fairisle and plain jumpers and cardigans in every shade imaginable, from dusky pink and apple green to moss and clotted cream. The range caters to men, women and children so you could outfit the whole family. Maybe it’s because I have Diana on the mind at the moment, but it’s the label’s retro sheep knit which seems like the best joy-giving purchase to get us through the weeks ahead. Not as inyour-face bright as the red “black sheep” jumper which Diana made famous (and which has itself been reissued recently), the muted grey and cream of Bosie’s take make it soothing and uplifting in equal measure.
Before you know it, it will be Christmas jumper time. This year, strike out and swap reindeers and robins for sheep.
