Trump’s campaign director ‘threatened staff with a gun’

- By Nick Allen in Washington

A SENIOR member of Donald Trump’s campaign has been accused of threatening staff with a loaded gun.

Earl Phillip, Mr Trump’s campaign director in North Carolina, pointed a pistol at employees but was never admonished, according to a lawsuit filed in the state.

Vincent Bordini claimed he was one of five staff members threatened, and that he was “terrified”.

He reported the incident to Mr Trump’s overall campaign manager, but “nothing happened” and he was “disgusted with the Trump campaign’s lack of corrective action”.

It came as Reince Priebus, chairman of the Republican National Committee, reportedly told Mr Trump he was considering redirecting the party’s resources away from the billionaire’s White House run to Senate races. That would signal a major setback for Mr Trump, but the Republican Party denied the report.

Mr Trump told US television: “I’ll just keep doing the same thing I’m doing right now. At the end it’s either going to work or I’m going to have a very, very nice long vacation.”

He also reiterated claims made at a rally on Wednesday that President Barack Obama “founded” Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant. He said Mrs Clinton was the terror group’s “cofounder and most valuable player”.

A spokesman for Mrs Clinton said: “This is an unhinged and patently false statement from an out of control candidate unraveling before our very eyes.”
