‘Countryfile’ farmer whose son joined Isil

-

John Letts, an organic farmer who has appeared on BBC One’s Countryfile, is the father of a 20-year-old man from Oxford who has been identified as the first white British male known to have joined Isil in Syria.

Isil last night released its latest propaganda video, warning the UK an attack was coming.

Boasting of the Paris attacks, the jihadists said Britain could be next because of its decision to join the air strikes in Syria.

The 17-minute video, entitled Kill them whenever you find them, ended with footage of David Cameron and John Bercow, the Commons speaker, during the debate on air strikes in Syria, both with targets on their head.

“Whoever stands in the ranks of the kuffar [enemy], will be a target for our swords,” the video warned, showing pictures of Tower Bridge and St Paul’s Cathedral in London, and claiming they were ready to strike “any time, anywhere”.

The eight Paris attackers also featured in the video, in which they were seen carrying out beheadings of captives in Raqqa, the de facto capital of Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant.

All were believed to have spent time training in Syria before returning to Europe to carry out the November attacks which left 130 people dead. The video claimed that the attacks were personally ordered by Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, Isil’s leader.

Among those featured in the video were Bilal Hadfi, above, the youngest of the Paris attackers, who detonated his suicide vest at the Stade de France. Also shown was Brahim Abdeslam, the brother of Europe’s mostwanted man, Salah Abdeslam.
