Halts impressive Norwich’s winning run

-

largely frustrating evening for Frank Lampard, after the champagne sparkle of Derby’s Carabao Cup win over Manchester United last week. He said: “We haven’t come off the back of the United result exactly flying because we want to win games but it’s not a worry.

“There is a feeling we could have won the game with the momentum at the end but a draw is a fair result,” Lampard added. “It’s a tough league and this was against the division’s form team.”

Derby were beaten by Bolton on Saturday and this was threatening to be another reality check for Lampard. Norwich were full of confidence and Teemu Pukki, the Finland international, almost gave the visitors a 25th-minute lead after his shot took a huge deflection and looped over goalkeeper Scott Carson only to miss by inches.

Derby did settle and Mason Mount, the midfielder on loan from Chelsea, produced another magical moment to underline why he is on Gareth Southgate’s radar. Mount picked up the ball 30 yards from goal and manoeuvred his way into the Norwich area, taking out two defenders with a deft flick, before his shot was held by Tim Krul.

Norwich took the lead in the 69th minute when Klose headed in Emi Buendia’s inswinging corner. Derby responded, with Krul producing a fine save to tip Mount’s shot over the bar. They levelled in the 86th minute when Bryson diverted substitute Martyn Waghorn’s cross into the corner of the net with his knee.

Krul denied Jack Marriott from close range as Norwich were subjected to late pressure. Farke said: “Being disappointed with a result like this shows how far we’ve come.” Derby County Norwich City Referee
