The ‘I’m all right’ attitude must change for us to start saving our planet

-

Sir, – As the world crashes around them, both physically and politically, there is an element of society who will always deny there is a problem, an urgent problem.

Now, this section of society obviously don’t want to solve the problems as they never offer a solution, but why should they? In their world the problems, evident to everyone else, don’t exist.

They demand everything is fine, the Westminster government is doing a grand job and as for Holyrood, if only they’d behave and stop complicating the natural order then all would be well.

Or simply put, they just can’t be bothered with any kind of change, even as the rest of us watch on in dismay at what is happening all around us in the real world.

Politics in the UK has become shambolic, with a government mired in accusations of corruption and an opposition party so desperate to rule they only offer the same failed policies of the Tories or, even worse, they have no ideas at all.

Here in Scotland Scottish Labour is backtracking on its previously stated aims simply to stay in tune with London.

The green agenda of the main Westminster parties has been cast aside as they tell us other “things” must take priority.

I believe saving the planet must take priority, because if we listen to their (the politicians’) other priorities, there will be nothing left.

The “I’m all right” attitude being seen in this country is shameful. There is no consideration given to the generations to follow.

The young generation will be left to repair the damage left by our generation and that’s a task being made harder every day.

Stop thinking solely about “your” world – we’ve messed it up enough. Change is needed. In Scotland that can only be achieved by independence, a Scottish Government in charge of the economy and our piece of the planet.

William Golden.
