CROWE WINS BLACK ROCK RACE

Dundee athlete Jamie Crowe headed a cast of 1,134 finishers at the Black Rock Race leading Central AC to team victory. Crowe – on summer leave from Lamar University, Texas – finished a clear winner over the 4.5-mile race across Pettycur Beach, clocking 22 minutes 04 seconds, 38 seconds clear of runner-up James Donald (Dundee Hawkhill). Former winner Neil Renault (Edinburgh AC) was third while Paralympia­n Derek Rae was fourth as he spearheade­d Fife AC’s second team effort. Scottish 5km Road Race champion Morag Millar made it a double success for Central AC as she finished 17th/1st female in a new female course record of 25 minutes 23 seconds and also led Central to team victory. Joseph Wright of Deeside Runners retained his White Tops Hill Race title, with the event promoted by Dundee Hawkhill from Kirkton of Auchterhou­se. Wright finished the 10.4km Sidlaws circuit in 46 minutes 09 seconds – 43 seconds ahead of runner-up Andy King (Unatt.).

Dundee athlete Andrew Merry (Glasgow Univ.), second last year, had to settle for third on this occasion in 47.15. Strathkinn­ess over-40 veteran Heather Anderson (Fife AC) followed up her win at last week’s Hill of Tarvit race with yet another female victory as she finished 11th overall in a course record 51 minutes

Grove Menziehill’s Cammy Golden scored twice as Scotland men beat Singapore 5-0 in the second game of the FIH Series finals in France.

Other strikes came from Ed Greaves, Kenny Bain and Andy Bull. Scotland lost their opening match 4-2 against Ireland, with Scotland goals coming from Duncan Riddell and Bain. Scotland’s third Pool A match is against Egypt tomorrow.
