New and improved Aberfeldy landslip repair plan starts today
A 10-week programme of roadworks will begin today on the A827, east of Aberfeldy.
The operation, to stabilise an embankment at Cultullich Bridge, was postponed from last year after businesses raised concerns about the original proposal, which would have shut down the route completely for several weeks.
Perth and Kinross Council has confirmed the new, improved plan will keep the road open throughout the project apart from two overnight closures and one daytime closure.
Crieff firm, MAM Contracting, was awarded the contract for the work, which will involve temporary traffic lights and a 10mph speed limit.
The site needs to be stabilised after a landslip in 2014. The damage was shored up by the council temporarily, but there are concerns that it could get substantially worse if left untreated.
Any further landfall could also hit the main BT fibre optic cable that provides internet services to homes and businesses throughout Aberfeldy, Kenmore and surrounding areas.
Local Conservative councillor John Duff welcomed the latest plan. “I am extremely grateful to senior roads engineer Andy Brown and his team of engineers for their work on redesigning the excavation of the embankment and the retaining wall in such a way that does not require the complete closure of the road for a very lengthy period of time,” he said.
“That would have been a disaster for the community and the surrounding area.”
Mr Duff thanked the council administration for finding the “not inconsiderable” extra funds to pay for the work.
