Boss blasted team through frustration

-

John McGlynn insists branding his Raith Rovers side “just not good enough” simply stemmed from frustration from yet another costly defeat at the weekend.

But the Stark’s Park boss admits his team’s promotion problems are partly down to how good their opponents have been.

McGlynn reckons a string of defeats and dropped points have exposed a deficiency in the Kirkcaldy men’s mentality, especially away from home.

Saturday’s 2-1 defeat at Forfar left him so exasperated he lambasted his squad in an interview with the club’s own TV channel after seeing them slip behind their hosts into third, a full 15 points adrift of leaders Arbroath.

However, he has since reined in his anger and, although still eager to fix some problems with his summer recruitment, insists everyone at the club remains focused on trying to reach the Championship via the play-offs.

He said: “You’re emotionally attached after the game and at that point I’m like other managers, I’m disappointed, and at these times that will come out.

“As a manager, this is your life – you eat, sleep and drink football and Raith Rovers.

“It never leaves me, at any minute of the day.

“Whatever it may be, it’s everything, absolutely everything, and we all want the best for the football club.

“This league is not easy, I’ve been really surprised by the league, to be honest with you.

“I came here to win the league, there’s absolutely no doubt about that, and it has been more difficult, and it’s been more difficult because the opposition are actually decent.

“But the Championship is still a possibility. We’ve not given up hope on that, at all, although it looks like that will be through the play-offs. Nothing’s changed, we go out in every game to win.”

Raith return to home soil when they host on-form Dumbarton tomorrow.
