Council rolls out guide to help people enjoy the great outdoors

-

Perth and Kinross Council has launched a guide to help residents enjoy open space.

The Paths Group Development Guide contains guidance information, contact details and links to further information with the aim of supporting community-led action on paths in Perth and Kinross.

The aim of the booklet is to appeal to people who are establishing a new path group, and to those who are already active within their local group.

A council spokesperson said: “The Perth and Kinross area boasts spectacular scenery across a 2,000 square mile area, and offers fantastic walking and cycling opportunities.

“The council’s community greenspace team is working with local groups to maintain, improve and promote our shared open spaces for all to enjoy.

“A key part of that is to keep our path networks in good shape, and we need to work together to do that. There is a growing number of volunteer path groups across Perth and Kinross engaged in practical work to keep paths in their own areas open with the support of community greenspace.”

She continued: “This booklet is not a blueprint providing all the information you and your group will ever need – we encourage residents to adapt the advice provided to suit their location and community, and to make use of the links and contacts supplied for additional support.

“Community greenspace may be able to provide a group with a grant which can be used to help fund materials and fuel for power tools.

“We can provide training on the use of tools and arrange insurance cover.”
