Britain’s Olympians have returned home following a winter games which saw them scoop five medals.

The tally is one more than the athletes took home from Sochi in 2014.

The 59 athletes took part in 11 sports during the two-week extravaganza in Pyeongchang, South Korea.

Lizzy Yarnold brought home Team GB’s only gold, taking the title in skeleton four years after winning in Russia.

Dom Parsons and Laura Deas took bronze in the same sport, while Izzy Atkin took bronze in the ski slopestyle and Billy Morgan claimed a bronze in the big air competition.

The team finished in 19th place in Pyeongchang and is aiming for the top 15 in Beijing in four years.

The group, along with officials, medical staff and a security team, touched down in London last night following an 11-hour flight from Seoul aboard a British Airways Dreamliner which was specially kitted out for them.

The airline laid on special bottles of champagne for the Olympians which had the label “Team GB chateau” on them.

Seats were also decorated in GB colours and the national anthem was sung before take-off.

Officials said they hoped the excitement of the team and its performances would inspire youngsters across Britain to dream of representing their country and to take up winter sports.

The Pyeongchang Games marked 30 years since the country first hosted an Olympic event, with the summer games held in Seoul in 1988.
