Young delighted as ‘quality goals’ secure victory

EAST FIFE 3 ARBROATH 1

East Fife boss Darren Young hailed his players’ spirit after they came from behind to take all three points against Arbroath.

The Lichties were halfway to victory with a Bobby Linn goal in the first 45 giving his side the advantage.

But the Methil men, who had Kyle Wilkie sent off, came roaring back in the second half and a Chris Duggan double was added to by a Mark Lamont strike.

It was all joy for Fife boss Young, but frustration for his opposite number Dick Campbell who had a heated verbal exchange with some of his own supporters in the second half.

Young said: “We struggled to get out in the first half and lost a poor goal.

“We had a couple of opportunities so had a chat at half time and spoke about how we wanted to play, getting the ball down and passing it.

“We did that and scored three quality goals. There was great fight and great determination which we get every week from the boys.”

Arbroath started the better of the two sides in a severely wind-affected game.

Linn had already gone close to opening the scoring before he did eventually break the deadlock. The former Fifer raced into the box and beat Mark Hurst from close range.

East Fife were struggling to put too much together but managed to get in at the break only the one goal down.

With the wind to their advantage after the re-start it didn’t take them long to peg their visitors back.

Duggan weaved his way past the Arbroath defence and with David Hutton coming off his line expecting a cross, fooled the goalie by sliding his strike beyond him.

East Fife stayed on the front foot and were soon ahead.

Duggan headed home a terrific cross from Aaron Dunsmore and was again at hand to head home a second.

Lamont curled in a superb third before Wilkie saw red for a lunge at Colin Hamilton.
