Police probe carjacking in Perthshire
Appeal for witnesses to ‘highly unusual’ incident
Police officers are investigating a terrifying carjacking in east Perthshire.
A man was threatened and his vehicle stolen in the highly unusual incident.
The driver was parked in a lay-by on the A926 Blairgowrie to Alyth Road when he was approached by an unknown individual in the early hours of Friday morning.
The man, said to be aged 20 to 30 and wearing a grey jacket, is understood to have approached the car on foot. He threatened the driver and demanded his car. His victim handed over the keys.
The man then made off in the silver Seat Ibiza, leaving its owner shaken but otherwise unhurt.
Police Scotland were contacted and a search for the car and thief was soon under way.
Officers subsequently discovered the car abandoned in Alyth. It is thought to have been undamaged.
The thief has not been traced and investigators have appealed for witnesses to come forward.
Police Scotland said there was no indication the car had been used in criminal activity after it was stolen.
Blairgowrie and the Glens SNP Councillor Tom McEwan urged anyone with information to come forward.
“This is a very distressing, upsetting and highly unusual incident,” he added.
Police Scotland said: “We are appealing for information after the driver of a silver Seat Ibiza car was threatened and had his car stolen on Friday October 13 at around 5.20am on the A926 Blairgowrie to Alyth Road.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
