Festival hopes to fake it on an annual basis
Organiser would like to see event featuring tribute acts become a yearly spectacular
The organiser of a festival which featured a host of tribute acts at the weekend wants it to become an annual event for Perth.
An estimated 1,000 music fans flocked to the city’s Lesser South Inch on Saturday to enjoy the Antarctic Monkeys, Aladinsane and the Fillers and several local bands.
Iain Brittain, organiser of the Perth Fake Festival, described it as an overwhelming success and praised its “family” appeal.
“The festival went really well – it was a sell-out,” he said.
“There were lots of families who attended, which is a great thing.”
He continued: “We’ll definitely be coming back next year and want to make it an annual event in Perth.
“Last year, which was our first, was such a success, it’s always difficult to judge how the second year will go. It will either go well, which it did, or it’s a case of interest may drop. Fortunately, it was fantastic.”
Mr Brittain reserved special praise for the performances of the local bands who entertained the Perth crowd prior to the headline tribute acts in the evening.
“All the local bands were superb – they will be really hard to beat next year,” he added.
“House of 4, who are from Crieff, and Longstay, from Perth, were amazing. Considering they are only 16 to 17-yearolds, to play in front of around 1,000 people and to such a high level, was great. Then we had the more established bands later, so all together we had a great mix.
“I was speaking to a local coffee shop owner today and he said the Fake Festival is one of the best events to come to Perth. We’ve already had talks regarding next year and can’t wait to come back.”
The festival was held under a giant marquee and featured a guitar rodeo competition.
