Police launch probe as second woman robbed at knifepoint
crime: Officers following positive line of inquiry after two women subjected to terrifying thefts
A second woman has been robbed at knifepoint in Kirkcaldy.
A masked man, who was carrying a knife, opened the passenger door of the woman’s stationary car and grabbed her handbag from the front seat.
Police believe the same man may be responsible for both this and an earlier theft, which happened in the same area of the town.
Officers said they are following a positive line of inquiry.
The victim of the second crime, which occurred at 4.40pm on Friday outside the RBS on Rosslyn Street, was unhurt but left shaken and distressed.
In the first, on Thursday near the Asda car park on Carberry Road at around 5pm, a woman was approached by a man with a knife who demanded her purse.
High visibility patrols are to be conducted by police officers in the area over the coming days.
As an appeal was issued for witnesses, Detective Inspector Graeme Dursley, of Kirkcaldy CID, said: “This is the second incident of its type in Kirkcaldy over the last two days.
“Although we are keeping an open mind, we are not ruling out the possibility that they are linked.
“We are committed to tracing the individual or individuals responsible as quickly as possible.
“The woman was not injured but she was understandably shocked and distressed.
“We’re keen to speak to anyone who was in the area and who may have information that can assist us in tracing the individual described.”
Community Inspector Graeme Neill, of Kirkcaldy Police Station, said: “We will be carrying out additional highvisibility patrols in the area of these incidents over the next few days.
“Anyone with information or concerns is asked to speak to officers on patrol or contact us at Kirkcaldy Police Station or by calling 101.”
The man who committed Friday’s robbery was wearing a woollen mask and made off on a red mountain bike.
He is described as in his mid twenties, 5ft 8in, slim, scruffy and unshaven, and was wearing black tracksuit bottoms with green stripes down the legs and a dark hooded top.
The perpetrator of the first robbery was described as being the same age, height and build and was wearing a dark grey hooded top, tracksuit bottoms with a white stripe down the side and white trainers.
He ran off past the car showrooms on Caxton Place, and crossed Dunnikier Way towards Gallatown Park.
Although we are keeping an open mind, we are not ruling out the possibility that they are linked. DETECTIVE INSPECTOR GRAEME DURSLEY
