Campbell’s good wishes start at final whistle
It will be the managerial master against the apprentice when Arbroath boss Dick Campbell locks horns with Stirling gaffer Dave Mackay this afternoon.
The former is one of the longest-serving managers in the game, while the latter will take charge of a team for just the second time.
Mackay was a Scottish Cup-winning captain with St Johnstone before having to hang up his boots through injury in September.
He made the move into management just over a week ago as Binos boss, and his first game in charge was a win in Elgin.
‘Cup tie’ is someone Campbell knows well, and he wishes him every success in his new role – after today.
He said: “I was really happy with our 4-0 win and the performance last week against Clyde. They are a good side but we played really well. I have watched the goals that we scored again on video, and they were crackers.
“That’s us up to the same points as second-placed Elgin, and we have a game in hand on them.
“So I am reasonably happy with where we are at the moment. We are now eight games unbeaten and have only lost one in 15.”
Campbell added: “However, we will be looking to kick on once more at Stirling this weekend.
“Dave Mackay is now in charge and he is someone I know really well. I had him as a player on loan from Dundee when I was manager at Brechin 15 years ago.
“He had a terrific attitude and it was no surprise to see him go on to have a great career, topped by lifting the Scottish Cup at St Johnstone,” he said.
“I’m looking forward to meeting up with him again on Saturday,” he said.
“I wish him good luck as a manager – starting at the final whistle of our game against them.”
Josh Skelly and Bryan Prunty are both injury doubts for Arbroath.
