Downfield narrow gap on leaders

-

Downfield narrowed the gap on leaders Blairgowrie to a point after a 5-0 win at bottom-of-the-table Forfar Albion.

Given the chances they created, the Spiders were disappointed to only score five.

Greg Birmingham and Marc O’Leary gave a two-goal interval lead, with Liam McCartney, Terry Connell and O’Leary again from a penalty on target after the break.

Glenrothes powered to a 5-1 win at Arbroath Vics to move up to fourth.

John Martin scored the opener after 25 minutes and two quick-fire goals at the start of the second half, from Iain Griffin and Calum Kinness, put the Fifers firmly in control. Rikki Gillespie did pull one back, but further goals came from Scott Napier and Kinness.

Kirrie Thistle remain very much in contention after a hard-fought win over North End at Westview. Bryan Duell scored Thistle’s goals.

Dokens boss George Shields was pleased with the way his side dominated the second half despite having Ross Sievwright sent off five minutes after the restart.

Earlier, Duell headed Thistle in front, with Lee Cameron cancelling that out on the half-hour mark.

Honours were even when Kinnoull hosted Scone Thistle.

The visitors took the lead when Fraser Mills converted a 41 st-minute penalty. Kieran Donald levelled for Kinnoull midway through the second-half.

Scone’s Bally Whytock saw red a few minutes from the end for a second caution.

A depleted East Craigie side went down by the odd goal in three at Coupar Angus.

Coach KrisWard was drafted into the side and put the Shipbuilders ahead after 15-minutes, lobbing home from 25-yards.

Coupar Angus were back on level terms on the half-hour mark when Max Reid fired home from 12-yards.

The winner came on 70 minutes, Adam Braid making a mazy run before firing home from 20-yards.

A last-gasp goal earned Lochore Welfare a point in a six-goal thriller at Lochee Harp. The Beechwood hosts were two up through Conor Ireland and Graham Allan, but a Jim Davis goal and a Lee Celentano penalty squared matters.

Robbie Norrie restored Harp’s lead but veteran Colin Cameron volleyed in the late leveller.

Newburgh finally posted their first home win of the season after an odd-goal-in-three success over Brechin Vics.

Trialist Scott Maxwell and an Andy Reade penalty counted for the hosts, with Liam Scott netting for Brechin.
