Dods calls on City strikers to relax in front of goal

-

Brechin City may be propping up the rest of the teams in League One but manager Darren Dods wants his players to relax at Albion Rovers tonight.

The former Dundee United and For far defender believes that the strong desire his squad is showing to move up the table is hindering them.

He explained: “We are creating chances but we are snatching at them.

“It has been happening for a few games now but hopefully that will change. If it does we will start winning games.

“It is difficult to relax when you are at the bottom of the table but if we can do it in front of goal we may find goals easier to come by.”

The Glebe Park men put on a spirited display against Dunfermline at the weekend before going down 2-1 and Dods looks set to freshen his side up.

He said: “I would imagine that Cliftonhill will be extremely heavy. Having played the league leaders at the weekend I need to ensure that I pick a team with the right energy levels. We have 12 games left and know that we need to get points on the board. Winning this one would be a great boost.”

Dods will have on-loan Lewis Spence available again after he was not allowed to play against his parent club at the weekend, but David Weatherston looks set to miss out.

A win for Albion Rovers would lift the Coatbridge side back into the promotion play-off pack – but player-manager Darren Young is more concerned with getting points that will take his side closer to avoiding automatic relegation.

Young said: “If we can defeat Brechin we would move 17 points ahead of them and that would be a huge gap to pull back with 11 games left.

“As a newly promoted side the objective at the start of the season was to avoid relegation. We would be close to doing that if we win.”
