Remains could be missing woman’s
THE THOUGHTS and prayers of neighbours were with the family of missing Newport woman Susan Reid last night as police confirmed the human remains discovered in north-east Fife on Tuesday could be hers.
With formal identification yet to take place, police were yesterday continuing their investigation at a remote spot just yards from a popular coastal path within Tentsmuir Forest.
It is understood the discovery was made by a dog walker between the ice house — south of Tentsmuir Point — and a bothy.
The force said inquiries were at a very early stage.
The discovery came as police search for Susan Reid, who has been missing from her home since January.
The 56-year-old is from Kerr Street, Newport, just a few miles away.
Police said earlier that her disappearance was still being treated as a missing persons inquiry and asked anyone with information to come forward.
Later, however, police confirmed their inquiries were now looking to confirm the remains were those of Mrs Reid.
Chief Inspector Adrian Annandale said: “Investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding the find at Tentsmuir and we have informed Susan’s family of the discovery and speciallytrained family liaison officers continue to work closely with the family, as they have been throughout the missing person inquiry”.
It is understood Mrs Reid had been looking after her husband, who is in the latter stages of MS.
Yesterday there was no answer from the bay-windowed family home in Kerr Street.
