Poverty lessons for Crieff pupils
PERTHSHIRE SCHOOL pupils have been learning about the poverty faced by children in India.
In a recent civics lesson, S1 and S6 pupils at Morrison’s Academy, in Crieff, played the Christian Aid Paper Bag simulation game.
This game shows pupils the reality of life for many children in India, who try to make a living by turning old newspapers into paper bags, which they then sell to shopkeepers who use them to package and sell their spices and grains.
Pupils worked together in groups of six to see how many paper bags they could make in 20 minutes.
They then decided whether this would have earned them enough money over the course of a day to live and eat.
In doing so, pupils learned the importance of team work and helping each other. They were also able to get to know pupils from other year groups.
They experienced for themselves how hard it would be to make enough paper bags each day to make a living and the reality of life for many children around the world who have to spend their days working. The Music of Love performance by Jamie MacDougall and special Valentine’s Day meal at the Famous Grouse Experience on February 14 has been postponed due to illness.
The event was due to take place at the Crieff distillery as part of a tie-in with Perth Theatre to celebrate the joys of romance.
It will now be held at a later date.
