The pens were pushed ashore and the ropes came off at LAKE OF

MENTEITH’S Gateside Bay at noon on Monday and there was immediate action.

A total of 537 fish were stocked this week with a further load of fish 3lb to 5lb due to be stocked later in the week.

There are around 1,500 fish still left to be stocked this year, many averaging 3lb plus.

Plenty of boats are available online midweek and for Sunday and for the end-of-season fundraiser on Sunday November 3.

In the bright and calm conditions at the weekend, it was a little tough but bung and buzzer tactics were successful in Gateside.

In the youth fishing scene, Jake Gilchrist won the Cormorants Shield and Angus Robertson won the Cormorants Chase Cup for best rod over the summer evenings. The Cormorants youth fishing club resumes first Tuesday in May.

At FORBES OF KINGENNIE, the weather has again been changeable, leading to variations in catch returns.

The Boathouse Pool has transitioned between gin clear and rather murky. Mr Klemsinsky chose the correct flies and presentation to take two fish for a total of 8lb and released a further 10 fish.

Dave Cormack had two fish for 6lb and returned another five fish, taken mainly on bloodworm patterns.

On Tuesday, the Burnside Pool saw nine anglers return 47 fish; top rod was Joe Westland with a dozen fish taken on a variety of patterns.

Mr McLean had one of 15lb returned in his catch of 17 fish, all caught on the bung with eggs.

Peter Thompson enjoyed a productive morning on the Bankside Pool, returning 10 fish, mainly on buzzers.

Mr Sutherland had a short catch/ release session, which resulted in three fish with the best being a fine rainbow of 8lb.

George Munro hit gold on the Woodside Pool (any legal method), catching just one superb rainbow but it weighed in at 15lb.

Powerbait fished beneath a float was again the winning method.

RESCOBIE LOCH AC competed for the Bill Pattie Cup on Sunday and with this being the last competition of the season, the championship was decided.

The loch continues to fish well with plenty of fish being caught, the water is colder so they are further down.

MONIKIE is still open till mid November and given a good day can fish well right until the end.

The fish are currently chasing fry around the islands and boat jetty. The best fish this week was Brian Wilkie’ 3lb 5oz catch.

Some of the other noted catches included Black Loch Angling Club with five boats (10 rods) returning all 12 fish caught; members R Beedie and C Gordon keeping seven fish for 13lb 8oz; visitor C Milne keeping four fish for 9lb and returning two. Successful patterns included Black and Claret Hoppers and a variety of lures.

At LOCHTER TROUT

FISHERY, there is now a beautiful display of autumn colours and renowned Woodside resident Bill Bain said he had his “best day ever”, no mean feat as he’s been a Lochter regular for more than 20 years.

Bill was fishing using a black WSW and caught 18 fish – 14 over 5lb and two over 9lb.

Jim Brown had two outings during the week where he had 18 and 13 fish and he got them on a variety of lures including the yellow damsel and WSW.

Jim Rhind used an old favourite lure, the ace of spades, and it is obviously still effective as he had 16 fish to the net using it.

Peter Wilson from Aberdeen fished the bunny leech lure and was rewarded with 15 fish in the 2-6lb category.

Pete Young fished the Muckle Troot loch using blobs and buzzers and brought eight fish to the net, and Matthew Reilly also had eight on nymphs.
