Love is in the air at fundraiser

-

A rare chance to ascend the Forth Road Bridge raised almost £65,000 for charity and saw three proposals of marriage.

Some 1,250 people landed tickets for Your View hosted by Barnardo’s Scotland.

Three of them popped the question on the platform at the top of the iconic landmark, while others celebrated wedding anniversaries and 50th, 60th and even 80th birthdays.

Ticket-holders ascended the famous bridge over two weekends in September.

Thanking participants, Barnardo’s Scotland director Martin Crewe said: “We were overwhelmed by the support for the event this year, which raised just under £65,000 which will go directly towards supporting our community-based services.

“Visitors used the event to share and celebrate their special occasions – there were three marriage proposals and many people bought the tickets as surprise birthday gifts, celebrations for loved ones turning 50, 60, 70 and a couple of octogenarian birthdays, too.

“We shared wedding anniversaries and were witness to some very happy and speechless visitors who had just half an hour to prepare themselves for an experience of a lifetime.

“It’s clear how much love there is for the bridge and how much it means to everyone living locally.

“Every guest had a story and a reason to be there, which made this event incredibly special and heart-warming to be part of.”
