Protest planned against closure
A protest has been organised against the proposed closure of Rosyth Resource Centre.
The demonstration will take place at the centre at 11am on Saturday, after SNP councillor Sam Steele gathered more than 2,000 signatures on a petition calling for a rethink.
The closure was approved by Fife’s health and social care partnership after a review that found less demand for traditional day services.
But locals have voiced their anger, with councillor Steele supported in her campaign by a number of politicians.
Rosyth community council also backed the bid to halt the closure at a public meeting.
Danny Hughes, the group’s chairman, said: “Despite the huge level of public concern expressed at the meeting with the health and social care representatives, it seems that they are completely indifferent to our views. That meeting was pure lip service. Obvious untruths were pointed out to them regarding their socalled consultation process but they are steamrollering ahead.
“Rosyth community council is frankly disgusted by their behaviour and will back any action to fight the closure of such an important resource.”
The issue was referred to Fife’s scrutiny committee yesterday. A report said officials “recognised the strength of feeling” in Rosyth and have reassured service users, families and carers that new opportunities are being created in response.
