Kennoway residents invited to help shape the village’s future
Planning: Household survey the first step towards drawing up and delivering five-year action plan
Kennoway residents are getting the chance to shape the village’s future.
Survey forms for the Coalfields Community Futures programme will drop through their letterboxes over the next couple of weeks.
Then they will be able to have their opinion on how funding can best be spent on local developments.
The Coalfields Regeneration Trust is backing the local steering group to conduct a household survey as the first step towards drawing up and delivering a five-year community action plan for the area.
The trust is also putting up a £20,000 participatory budget to help get key projects off the ground.
The survey, which can also be completed online, will ask people what they like and dislike about the area.
And it will also find out what they would like to change to make things better over the next five years.
Bob Young, Scottish trustee of the Coalfields Regeneration Trust, said: “This is a great opportunity for everyone in Kennoway to play a part in shaping their own future.
“The local steering group has done a great job in drawing up the survey, and now they will be busy distributing it to every household in the area.”
He added that once the results are in the steering group will draw up a list of key projects and will organise a family fun day where everyone will have the chance to vote for their favourite projects for inclusion in the action plan.
“Our Coalfields Community Futures programme is a great example of giving local people a real say in shaping the development of their community, and I would urge everyone to fill in and return the forms as soon as they get them,” he said.
Pauline Grandison, the trust’s team leader community action will run a funding surgery from 3 to 7pm on Tuesday September 5 at Sandy Brae Community Centre to provide help and advice on how to apply for a share of the fund.
