Livestock under the hammer at Stirling

The champion animal at the show and sale of cattle at Stirling’s Caledonian Marts Ltd was a Limousin cross heifer from JH and NT Turnbull, Meadowend, Clackmannan. The heifer chosen by judge Stewart Ramsey, Fallside Hill, Kelso, scaled 578kg and made 300pp /kg. His reserve champion was a Limousin bullock scaling 682kg from C Malone, Pitcairn, Cardenden, which made 250ppkg. The champion pair of bullocks were from Meadowend and weighed 640kg and 636kg , making 242ppkg and 240ppkg. The champion pair of heifers were from M I Wainwright and Sons, Todhall, Cupar. They realised 245ppkg and 230. A total of 239 cattle were sold, comprising 110 prime bullocks and heifers, 11 young bulls, 8 OTM cattle and 110 cast cows and bulls. Dairy cows sold to 115ppkg from J Pollock and Sons, Bonnyhill, Bonnybridge, and to £970 for the first prize single dairy cow from G Millar, Gallamuir, Plean.
