The champion animal at the show and sale of cattle at Stirling’s Caledonian Marts Ltd was a Limousin cross heifer from JH and NT Turnbull, Meadowend, Clackmanna­n. The heifer chosen by judge Stewart Ramsey, Fallside Hill, Kelso, scaled 578kg and made 300pp /kg. His reserve champion was a Limousin bullock scaling 682kg from C Malone, Pitcairn, Cardenden, which made 250ppkg. The champion pair of bullocks were from Meadowend and weighed 640kg and 636kg , making 242ppkg and 240ppkg. The champion pair of heifers were from M I Wainwright and Sons, Todhall, Cupar. They realised 245ppkg and 230. A total of 239 cattle were sold, comprising 110 prime bullocks and heifers, 11 young bulls, 8 OTM cattle and 110 cast cows and bulls. Other leading prices: Bullocks ppkg – 252p Learielaw, 248p Todhall, 238p (twice) Balquharra­ge. Heifers ppkg – 262p Learielaw, 255p, 250p and 245p Meadowend, 238p Balquharra­ge. Young bulls – £1,605 Mains of Throsk, £1,525 Mains of Burnbank, £1,515 and £1,511 Bogside (Nimmo). Also forward were 110 cast cows and bulls. Beef cows sold to 149ppkg for a Limousinfr­omMainsofT­hrosk,Stirling, and to £1,150 for the first prize single beef cow which was also from Mains of Throsk. Dairy cows sold to 115ppkg from J Pollock and Sons, Bonnyhill, Bonnybridg­e, and to £970 for the first prize single dairy cow from G Millar, Gallamuir, Plean. Other leading prices: Beef cows per head – £1,010 Allanfauld, £990 Mid Cambushinn­ie and Mains of Throsk. Dairy cows per head – £930 Carskerdo, £860 Gallamuir, £810 Bonnyhill.
