Striking options for Canning

PARTICK THISTLE 2 HAMILTON 2

Hamilton manager Martin Canning declared himself happy with his striking options after Eamonn Brophy came off the bench to earn a point against Partick Thistle.

The 20-year-old provided a classy finish from Massimo Donati’s through-ball to net his first goal of the season and seal a 2-2 draw at Firhill.

Accies had started the game with two forwards in the shape of Alex D’Acol and Rakish Bingham, and both looked dangerous for spells.

Much is expected of Brophy at the SuperSeal Stadium, and Canning hopes his 83rd-minute goal can help the striker push on.

Hamilton deservedly opened the scoring for the eighth time in nine Ladbrokes Premiership games when Donati headed home Ali Crawford’s corner, but their lead only lasted eight minutes, until midway through the first half.

Ryan Edwards tapped home after Accies failed to clear Chris Erskine’s cross and Liam Lindsay was afforded a free header to put Thistle in front two minutes before the end of a relentless first 45.

Accies have now lost 16 points from winning positions this season and, despite being one of five centre-backs who are unavailable through injury, Canning wants a more resolute defence.

The point lifted Thistle off the bottom of the table.

However, manager Alan Archibald bemoaned the concession of a third crucial late goal in four home matches.
