Baker’s dozen brings sweet surprise

-

EVERYONE KNOWS the traditional lyrics of the 12 Days of Christmas.

But rather than delivering five gold (dough) rings, a well-known family-run bakery business has put a modern spin on the song by delivering parcels of gift chocolates to random households across Fife.

Fisher & Donaldson manager Ben Milne (32) and his sister Jade, of Cupar, selected the lucky 12 recipients at random from the Fife phone book and Ben made the deliveries on Sunday.

He explained that he had recently taken part in the reddit online gift exchange and wanted to try something similar in Fife.

Ben said: “The way reddit works is that I sent a gift to someone I don’t know in the USA and I got a gift from someone I don’t know in Colorado.

“I said to my sister we should try and do something like that locally and she agreed.

“She flicked through the phone book, closed her eyes and wherever her finger landed at random we decided to deliver a gift. Our mum Ruth made all the chocolate and tied up the bags.”

The lucky recipients lived in the Cupar, St Andrews and Ceres areas.

One told The Courier how it had been a really pleasant surprise to receive such an unexpected gift.

Mrs Marlene LloydEvans, of Kinaldy Meadows, near St Andrews, said: “It is not every day that something like this happens. We were so touched by the gesture.”
