Community groups are to benefit from the cancellation of a popular north-east Fife fireworks display.

East Neuk O’ Fife Round Table called off the event planned for Anstruther harbour on November 5, in line with Scottish Government guidance on large gatherings.

Chairman Kevin Mcelihinney said £2,000 donated by the community to allow the fireworks to go ahead would now be distributed to local groups to help them deliver vital services.

“Regrettably this decision was made for us but we must follow the government guidance to protect lives,” he said. “We are hoping that next year’s event in 2021 will go ahead.

“We would like to thank everyone who has supported our previous events, to all who have filled our donation buckets and the local businesses who have generously contributed to this event year-on-year, and a very special thanks to Elizabeth Gordon and the committee of the Community Kist.

“Without their substantial donations our successful firework displays would never have been possible.”

Kevin urged any local group in need of funds to get in touch.

“We would like to serve the community by donating the funds we have in place for the fireworks display to local community groups,” he said.

“We appreciate many local groups and charities have been working hard delivering vital services to the community during this difficult time and many groups will not have the opportunity to fundraise as usual.”
