Glamis Castle, August 20-21

Let’s admit it, food is pretty near the top of most people’s agendas, so foodies across Courier Country are drooling at the thought of the Taste Angus Food and Drink Festival at Glamis Castle this weekend.

It’s here that local suppliers and producers, restaurants and chefs get together to showcase the quality and range of food that Angus and the surrounding regions have to offer.

Throughout the weekend, local chefs, including Jamie Scott, MasterChef winner and chef patron of The Newport Restaurant, and Scottish Young Chef of the Year 2016 and owner of the The Tayberry Restaurant, Adam Newth, will be cooking up a wonder of culinary feasts with the best of local ingredients, and running pop-up street food-style restaurants.

“I am really passionate about the producers and growers from my local area so to be involved in an event like this bringing everyone together is really exciting,” says Jamie.

“I hope visitors are wowed by the offering in both food and drink for all the family from our area.”

Angus Glens Moorland Group was established in 2015 to showcase work and community life in the Angus Glens and special guest, celebrity chef Nick Nairn, will be cooking with local game, exploring the journey of “from hill to plate” with the help of the gamekeepers.

“I’m delighted to be part of the Taste Angus festival, and can’t wait to share my passion for one of the world’s great eating experiences – grouse,” says Nick.

Lianne MacLennan, coordinator of the Angus Glens Moorland Group is looking forward to learning about creative ways to cook and prepare grouse.

“The way our gamekeeper members manage the heather moors in Angus for the grouse helps to produce this prime product,” she says.

Joining the line-up are chef brothers, Jordan and Eden Sinclair of Sinclair’s Larder in Edzell, Brian McLeish, head chef of Aberdeen’s Moonfish Café; twotime BBC Great British Menu finalist Jak O’Donnell, and Praveen Kuma, owner of Tabla, Perth’s only rosette standard Indian restaurant.

There will also be a market marquee with food, drink, gifts, arts and craft stalls. Amongst the offerings from local artisan suppliers will be local ales, gins, smokies and oysters, award-winning scones and preserves.

The food street and festival bar will offer everything from gourmet venison burgers and local ales to Champagne and oysters or a vintage afternoon tea.

Entertainment will be laid on by local talent including the Cairn String Quartet, Kirriemuir soft rock band, Sonnet 65 and solo singer Paul Black.
