Swaledale section at Killin Show
Killin Show’s sheep classes have expanded this year to include Swaledales, making it the only venue outwith the Royal Highland Show to have a section for the breed, writes Nancy Nicolson.
Sheep judging is always a highlight of the show, which will take place tomorrow at the town’s Breadalbane Park.
The Swaledale judge is John Burton of Connonish, and John MacDougall judges the cross sheep.
The Blackface breed is in the hands of Douglas Willison Jr.
The cattle are back at the show this year after a self-imposed absence in 2015 to allow the park’s surface to dry out after drainage and landscape work. The cross breeds will be judged by Roddy Kennedy.
Vintage tractors are a popular draw at the show, and the judge is Bob Allan.
They will take part in the parade, which leaves the Dochart Bridge at 12.30pm.
This will be led by the Comrie Pipe Band, followed by fancy dress participants.
The afternoon entertainment in the ring features a falconry display as well as Killin Show’s traditional favourites. These include the family triple challenge, children’s races, and the terrier race.
There will be a shearing demonstration, a three-class dog show, Highland dancing and a bonny baby prize.
The food hall opens at 8am and there will be an exhibition of flowers, vegetables, crafts, baking, produce and preserves in the McLaren Hall.
In the evening ceilidh music and a hog roast bring the show day to a close.
