Rotarians welcome new man at the helm
SOLICITOR Hamish Watt is the new president of Montrose Rotary Club.
Mr Watt, originally from Forfar, thanked outgoing president Colin Den-Mckay for all the club’s achievements during his term of office.
One of Mr Den-Mckay’s last tasks before handing over the chains was to welcome new member Fred Jack, a retired carpenter.
In his younger days he was a member of the Sea Cadets and went on to join the Royal Naval Reserve at HMS Camperdown in Dundee. STUDENTS F ROM Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design are showcasing their work on the international stage at a group exhibition in the United States.
The group of seven, from the MFA art and humanities programme at Dundee University have contributed work to theTrans-send exhibition.
Their work will be shown at Towson University in Maryland until August 9 as part of a city-wide arts festival in neighbouring Baltimore.
The students have mainly contributed work on paper, with a few pieces of digital film, embroidery and sculpture.
Mary Modeen, MFA art and humanities course director, said: “This is a great opportunity for the students to exhibit their work in another country and make connections with artists from the US.
“They are artists whose practice is built on a foundation of learning and critical thinking, a feature of this course, which has attracted students from around the world, and Greek, Dutch, American and Scottish artists are exhibiting at Trans-send.”
Professer To n i a Matthews, head of graduate studies in art at Towson University visited Dundee earlier this year as a guest speaker and masterclass leader, and agree to establish an exchange postgraduate exhibition.
Students from Towson will have an exhibition in Dundee next year.
