Agnew will consider a permanent switch to Gateshead

LOANEE LIAM KEEN TO STAY

-

GATESHEAD midfield man Liam Agnew is open to making his move a permanent one.

Agnew is one of two players on loan from Harrogate Town until the end of the season.

The former Sunderland trainee is contracted at Harrogate until the end of the 2020/21 season.

Agnew was in the Gateshead squad which headed for Norfolk today for a rare overnight stay in a hotel.

The Heed take on National League North leaders King’s Lynn Town on the back of four defeats from five.

Gateshead have struggled for clean sheets and results during player-manager Mike Williamson’s absence.

The former Newcastle defender returned to training this week, Agnew happy to be back in his native North East.

He told the Chronicle: “I am loving it at Gateshead. It is a brilliant club and a joy to be here.

“I believe I have been consistent and played quite well. It is up to me to continue improve further. “I would definitely have the conversation in the summer if Gateshead wanted me but we will see what both clubs want.”

After defeats at Halesowen and Altrincham the Heed cannot afford a third.

Agnew added: “King’s Lynn will be tough but if we play anywhere near our potential against anyone in this league we should be fine. “We need to get back into the routine of playing well week in, week out.

“That is high-intensity and playing good football. If we do that results will take care of themselves.

“In the last few games we have been punished for our mistakes, which are cardinal sins.

“Those mistakes should not happen and we have not been taking our chances at the other end.

“We need to stick to the process of what we are trying to build here and we will turn it around.

“The season has been a bit stopstart with games called off – but we cannot use that as an excuse.”
