GLOBAL star Sting is still smiling – and touring – after undergoing surgery on his shoulder and his “show must go on” determination is certainly impressing his fans.

The North East musician has thanked well-wishers in a video posted on his Twitter account in which he is pictured with his left arm in a sling.

And when he told how he had pulled a tendon and had undergone surgery the previous day, his words prompted a flood of comments from his concerned fans.

Sting, who last year was warmly welcomed by home fans when he brought his musical The Last Ship to Newcastle, could have been forgiven for feeling a little Fragile the day after his operation but Tuesday proved to be a Brand New Day it seemed as the singersongwriter put on a brave face – and the hint of a smile – as he told how the show must go on.

In the video, which within twoand-a-half hours had received 22,400 views, he said: “Thanks for all your good wishes. I really appreciate it.

“What did I do ... I tore a tendon in my shoulder the other night – last Thursday – and then had surgery yesterday but tonight we’re in Bordeaux.”

He added that after France, he will tour to Germany and then the US, saying: “We’re not stopping. I keep saying the show must go on.”

And he told his near 346,000 followers: “I think it’s your good wishes that keep me going.”

Fans from around the world soon responded with wishes of a speedy recovery, with one woman even volunteering her services as a nurse.

Among the comments was one from a Bob Borden who wrote: “Awww man, Sting is in a sling! Get well soon!”

Another, TraceyZee, tweeted: “Oh no! I hope you heal quickly! I just bought eight tickets to see The Last Ship in DC. My friends and I are so excited to see you again!”

And Alison Bunce added: “Sting in a stylish sling. Surely there must be a song lyric there? Sounds extremely painful and hoping for a speedy recovery.”

A light-hearted comment came from fellow music favourite Ronan Keating whose message to Sting said: “Good luck mate. Was gonna say break a leg but I’m not sure that’s right somehow.”
