Starlets pushing the boat out at GB camp

-

FOUR of Chester-le-Street Rowing Club’s outstanding young prospects hope to be oarsome performers in front of Great Britain’s top coaches, writes TONY HODGSON.

Roman Bowery, Matthew Cleugh, Molly Dowson and Caitlin Warren have been selected to take part in the GB junior team’s half-term training camp in Nottingham.

The camp, which started today and runs for a week, offers the quartet the chance to train with the country’s finest ahead of GB junior trials in Boston, Lincolnshire, next month.

Dowson, 17, and 16-year-olds Bowery, Cleugh and Warren will be joined in the Midlands by club coach Holly Young.

The quartet - who have been with the Riverside-based club since they were 12 - are all members of the Durham Talent Performance Athletes Programme.

They are among 40 young rowers from across the country selected by GB coaches for the camp, where they will undergo intensive training.

CARC head coach Steven Thompson said: “We have had rowers at the camp before but never four in the same year.

“*It is a real feather in our cap and I am so pleased for the four of them. They are all terrific prospects who are doing well on the water.

“This a great chance for them to show their credentials ahead of the trials and benefit from a detailed training programme.

“Roman, Matthew, Molly and Caitlin follow a healthy tradition of successful juniors over the years who have been part of the camp, then been selected for the GB team They include Joseph Adamson, who competed at this year’s European Under-23 Championships and who will attend the Great Britain trials in Boston.”
