Supercars and green machines take pride of place

-

IT promises to be heaven for petrolheads – but Newcastle Motor Show, which comes roaring back this weekend, will have proud green credentials on display too.

Besides flash cars and stunt driving displays, the city centre event, being presented by NE1, will showcase some of the newest electric and hybrid vehicles.

A star of the green show will be Lexus which will be bringing six of its selfcharging hybrids to the Motor Show.

Among other dealers who will be going green at the show will be Lloyd BMW with its i8 Roadster – which can accelerate from 0 to 62mph in 4.6 seconds – and Nissan with its famous North East-created sporty Leaf which has a sleek new design.

Ben Whitfield, marketing and events manager at NE1 Ltd, said the event is proud to be going green.

“There is a growing interest and environmental awareness about the need to cut vehicle fuel emissions and we are keen to showcase the latest hybrid and electric vehicle,” he said.

Visitors can see the whole range of visiting supercars in the city centre around Grey Street, Shakespeare Street and Blackett Street over the two days.

The line-up will include the Bloodhound SSC, the world’s most powerful land vehicle, which boasts a whopping 135,000bhp and will be on show at Grey’s Monument all weekend.
