Baggies weigh up move to land Aarons

-

NEWCASTLE United have a decision to make on Rolando Aarons this summer – with West Bromwich Albion considering a bid for the winger.

Although Newcastle are not actively looking to sell the 22-year-old, the wideman is not guaranteed a place in Rafa Benitez’s first-team squad for the 2018/19 campaign and the Magpies could listen to tempting offers.

A loan move could be the best option for Aarons, though he had a disappointing six-month spell at Hellas Verona last term - but Newcastle could look to cash in so they can raise additional funds to reinvest in their squad.

According to reports in the Midlands, West Brom may test Newcastle’s resolve on Aarons given winger James McClean is expected to join Stoke City.

The Baggies had targeted Bristol City wideman Bobby Reid but he is likely to join newlypromoted Cardiff City in a £10m deal - and are instead set to turn their attention to Aarons.

Benitez is looking for an additional winger this summer, with Chelsea’s Kenedy still his primary target following a successful loan spell on Tyneside.

However, the uncertainty over the head coach situation at Stamford Bridge means United are still waiting to find out if the Brazilian will be allowed to depart west London again next term.

If another wideman does arrive this summer then Aarons is likely to find himself as fifth choice – with Matt Ritchie, Christian Atsu and Jacob Murphy all currently ahead of him in the first-team pecking order.
