Vauxhall’s new model Rocks
VAUXHALL has created the ultimate automotive sheep in wolf’s clothing, aimed at those who want the look of an SUV without the expense.
Based on a standard five-door Vauxhall Viva, the revamped version takes the name of Viva Rocks, and boasts a chunkier appearance.
It is no coincidence that this new muscular version of the Viva is unveiled just as sales of fully-fledged SUVs are soaring.
The newcomer boasts body cladding on the outside, a redesigned interior, plus the sort of enhanced connectivity that appeals to those who do actually venture off road.
Priced from £11,530, one of the main features to help it through the winter is a raised ride height that is said to create better driving visibility and improved response to uneven surfaces including pot holes.
Aiming to achieve the best of both worlds, Vauxhall says the vehicle is also ideally suited to city life, thanks to its compact dimensions, easy manoeuvring and large luggage capacity of 1,000 litres.
Among the main design differences are silver roof rails, a more rugged front that incorporates fog lights, plus rear bumpers with integrated skid pads, bloated wheel arches, and special 15-inch two-tone alloy wheels.
On the inside, there is a new interior with so-called sophisticated touches and optional R 4.0 IntelliLink.
This system generates smartphone connectivity via Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, whilst also providing navigation through Apple Maps or Google Maps. Alternatively, Navi 4.0 IntelliLink offers an integrated navigation system.
This connectivity is completed with the availability of the personal connectivity and service assistant, OnStar, making it among the best connected A-segment cars on the market, according to Vauxhall.
There is also a City driving mode that reduces steering effort to assist with tight manoeuvres in heavy city traffic, with cruise control supporting speed management. Additional features include Park Assist, which makes parking safer and easier.
