A CHARITY cricket day is being staged at South Shields Cricket Club on Sunday (1.00) to remember Bill Parker, one of the greatest run scorers in the club’s history, and to raise funds for the Alzheimer’s Society.

Parker, who died in February aged 68, represente­d Durham at cricket and captained the Durham Senior League XI.

A team made up of past players from South Shields and Boldon will take on a Durham over 50s/60s team, followed by South Shields playing Boldon for the WBP Parker Memorial Trophy. Both games are 20/20 ties.

Both teams will have their Durham CCC players Gordon Muchall (South Shields) and Calum Macleod (Boldon) playing. ■■GATESHEAD Indoor Bowling Centre is holding an open day on Saturday, September 3 (10.004.00).

Equipment and coaching will be provided for anyone interested in taking up the sport. ■■WILLIAM Watson Renwick was the winner of the Lyndhurst Bowling Club’s Junior Championsh­ips - the first in 111 years - with Ciaran Pearson runner-up. ■■SOUTH Northumber­land reached the final of the James Bell Trophy with a four-run win over Ryhope - South North 135-8, Ryhope 131-9. ■■PHILADELPH­IA’s run in the Tom Brown Cup was ended when they lost by nine wickets to Easington. Phili made 60, Easington 62-1. ■■CASTLE Eden lifted the Durham County League’s John Lowery League Cup with a 20-run over Peterlee - Castle Eden amassing 74-3 and Peterlee just 54-9 in their reply.
